I have many clients and friends ask me about nutrition and fitness. I happily answer all their questions, as I don’t want anyone paying for information you can find available for free.
One question I answer more than any is “which diet works” and my answer is always; the one you can follow.
There are companies out there making money off desperate people looking to lose weight but all they teach you is how to add points or which foods are syns, but don’t actually teach you how to track your own food and make your own decisions on your intake of food.
Alternatively, there are diets out there that make you cut out certain foods, like carbs. Or they may make you only eat at specific times of the day or on certain days.
Another popular diet are meal replacements, you have to have a liquid breakfast and lunch, but then you can eat real food for dinner.
These may work in the short term, but they are not sustainable for a long period. Can you imagine yourself not eating breakfast or lunch for the rest of your life? Or paying a company each week so you know which food are syns? This is unrealistic.
So what does work? If you are looking to lose weight the only thing that does work is eating in a calorie deficit. Which all of these diets have in common.
To eat in a calorie deficit you need to work out your maintenance calories, which you can do for free on the internet. You need to then eat below this number daily. To start with you will need to track everything you consume to make sure you are not going over that number.
It’s not easy but once you start seeing results you won’t mind. After a while you will know your regular food and regular portions for calories.
